Separate stuffing-box packing from a mechanical seal
Packing seals around a shaft or stem inside a stuffing box. A mechanical seal introduces mating faces and different equipment interfaces. Establish which assembly is being replaced before measuring. For packing, retain shaft or stem diameter, box bore, depth and ring arrangement; for a mechanical seal, identify the complete housing and shaft interface.
