Flange & equipment fit
Send the flange standard or complete equipment drawing. For exchanger gaskets, include pass partitions, bolt holes and the seating dimensions. The sealing element, centering rings and mating groove each need the correct geometry.
Match the ring to the groove
An RTJ gasket works with a matching machined groove. Begin with the flange designation, ring number and profile rather than selecting a ring by outside diameter alone. Keep R, RX and BX requirements separate; similar dimensions do not establish interchangeability.
The order should name the ring material and the applicable material acceptance requirements. Ask for the inspection records associated with that ring and batch, rather than relying on a general photograph of metal rings.
Inspect contact surfaces and keep rings identified
Inspect the ring and groove for contamination, handling damage and signs that the joint differs from its drawing. Preserve the ring identification through storage and delivery.
A used ring or a worn groove needs assessment under the relevant equipment and assembly procedure. Do not substitute material or profile to make a ring fit without engineering approval.
